2021 MACHINE GUN CHIMERA
mixed media in situ: many fountains, photography, metal, foam, plants, plaster, metal, glass
Machine Gun Chimera is a collective sculptural experiment by Anne Beumer, Robin Verslegers, Sybren Janssens, and Charlotte Daniëlse. Together, they transformed the pond of the exhibition space 019 in Ghent into a site-specific installation. Within the pond, fountains and sculptures are presented, constructing a contemporary dreamworld that visualizes the violence glorified in hip-hop and rap music—a genre that is mainly consumed by younger audiences. The installation unfolds as a spectacle of fast horses, fast cars, money, and drowned strippers. A pond filled with vodka, subtropical longing, and big guns evokes, in essence, the new ancients: a modern, many-headed chimera.
